Maafushi's designated tourist beach represents the evolution of Maldivian tourism beyond luxury resorts. As one of the first local islands to embrace guesthouse tourism, Maafushi created a dedicated "bikini beach" where tourists can wear Western swimwear while respecting local customs elsewhere on the island. The beach offers the same white sand and clear waters found at resorts, but at a fraction of the price, and is lined with affordable restaurants and water sports operators.
