Expedition Overview
The Deep South Expedition is our most adventurous liveaboard experience, venturing into the remote and rarely visited southern atolls of the Maldives. This 10-day expedition takes experienced divers to Addu Atoll, Fuvahmulah, and Huvadhoo Atoll, where pristine reefs and unique marine ecosystems await.
This expedition is designed for advanced divers seeking encounters with large pelagic species including tiger sharks, hammerhead sharks, and massive schools of fish. The southern atolls offer a completely different Maldives diving experience from the central Maldives, with deeper channels, stronger currents, and more challenging but incredibly rewarding dive conditions.

10-Day Expedition Itinerary
Days 1-2: Departure & Southern Transit
Depart Male and begin southern transit with check dives. First encounters with southern Maldives marine life and acclimatization to expedition routine.
Days 3-4: Huvadhoo Atoll
Explore the pristine reefs of Huvadhoo Atoll. Deep channel dives, pristine coral gardens, and encounters with large pelagic species in untouched waters.
Days 5-7: Fuvahmulah Island
The expedition highlight! Dive with tiger sharks, thresher sharks, and hammerheads around this unique single-island atoll. World-class shark diving.
Days 8-9: Addu Atoll
Explore the southernmost atoll with its unique ecosystem. Visit the British Loyalty wreck and experience the diverse marine life of this remote location.
Day 10: Return Transit
Final dives and return journey to Male. Expedition debrief, certificate presentation, and farewell to fellow expedition members.

Unique Marine Encounters
Tiger Sharks
Fuvahmulah is one of the few places in the world where tiger sharks can be reliably encountered. These magnificent predators reach up to 5 meters in length.
Hammerhead Sharks
Schools of scalloped hammerheads frequent the deep channels around Fuvahmulah, especially during early morning dives in the cleaning stations.
Thresher Sharks
The deep waters around the southern atolls are home to thresher sharks, recognizable by their distinctive elongated tail fins used for hunting.
Pristine Coral Systems
The remote southern atolls feature some of the most pristine coral systems in the Maldives, largely untouched by tourism and climate impacts.
Expedition Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Advanced Open Water certification with minimum 100 logged dives. Deep diving and drift diving experience strongly recommended. Nitrox certification preferred.
Physical Requirements
Good physical fitness required for challenging diving conditions. Medical clearance may be required for divers over 50 or with medical conditions.
Equipment Recommendations
Personal mask, fins, and wetsuit recommended. Underwater camera with strobes for optimal photography. Dive computer with decompression capabilities essential.
